Update: Coroner IDs Body Found Near Miramar Beach

Update 4/16/13:

The dead body that washed up in Miramar last week has been identified as Carlos Javier Lopez, a 23-year-old Half Moon Bay man, according to the San Mateo County Coroner’s Office.

Lopez's family was notified Tuesday morning. His body was found about a quarter of a mile from where he was last seen in March, according to a Half Moon Bay Review report.

Lopez, who first went missing on the afternoon of March 24, worked at the Gin Wan Chinese Restaurant on Highway 1 in Miramar. Lopez was last seen at Roosevelt Beach with friends when he disappeared into the surf retrieving a ball.

A decomposed body was found in the ocean near Half Moon Bay on Sunday evening, a San Mateo County sheriff's spokeswoman said today.

Passersby on Miramar Beach made the discovery and reported it to the sheriff's office at about 5 p.m., Detective Rebecca Rosenblatt said.

Deputies responded and brought the body to shore, she said. The body was that of a male.

The San Mateo County coroner's office will be working to determine the person's identity and cause of death, which could take several weeks, she said.

A man was , from the area where the body was found. The next day, a Coast Guard search — along with other emergency response agencies — was suspended for the 22-year-old man who was reportedly playing football at Roosevelt Beach with a friend and was last seen in the surf.
