Elvis is a Coastsider: Locals Run Bay to Breakers

The Coastside Running Club left Moss Beach before 5:30 a.m. on Sunday to participate in the 100th running of the iconic footrace.

On Sunday, Elvis left his house in Montara, got into a mini-bus in Moss Beach, and drove up the coast for a morning jaunt to San Francisco.

The reason? Elvis, a.k.a. Ron Little, joined wife Jennifer Hubbart and six other members of the Coastside Running Club for the 100th running of the Bay to Breakers.

Though running in costume is not exactly de rigueur, it's a highly-prized tradition for the iconic Bay Area footrace, which Coastsiders embraced in stride on Sunday.

Moss Beach resident and club member Lauren Schechtman and her husband Rich donated their full-sized school bus for the occasion. The group set out before 5:30 a.m. to ensure their timely arrival at the festivities, with Rich taking the driver's seat so that the runners could get one last bit of rest before the race.

"The predicted rain never materialized, thankfully," Little said. "I enjoyed seeing all the costumes and listening to the music. I missed the floats, like there were last year."

In addition to the no-float rule, there other changes implemented this year: race organizers enforced a no-alcohol policy.

"The crowds seemed tame and everyone was having a good time," Little said.

The group was back on the Coastside before 11 a.m.

"It was a nice morning," Little said.
