Neil Young, HMB Beautification Committee Among Locals Honored

Recognized throughout county for support of the arts.

Well-known rock musician Neil Young — along with the group behind the Half Moon Bay Art and Pumpkin Festival and last year's Fourth of July parade — are among locals who have been honored for their support of the arts with San Mateo County Diamond Awards.

The Half Moon Bay's Beautification Committee, a nonprofit organization comprised of longtime Half Moon Bay residents and community leaders, was chosen as the honoree in the government support category, which can include support of public art, arts programming, grants, programming at a local club, hosting arts events, or serving the needs of local artists.

"It's truly an honor to be chosen by the Peninsula Arts Council for this prestigious award," said Cameron Palmer, owner of Cameron's Restaurant and Inn and chairman of the Beautification Committee.

"We are grateful and delighted to be among the honorees and commend all of the nominees for the outstanding contributions they make to the arts in San Mateo County," he said.

Young and wife Pegi, La Honda residents, were given a special recognition award. Since 1986, the Youngs have produced the Bridge School acoustic concert every year in Mountain View to benefit disabled children.

Others recognized include Shely Pack-Manning (Arts Educator awards) and Coastal Repertory Theater performer Julia Belanoff (Roy Lorenzato Young Artist award).

Administered by the Peninsula Arts Council, the Diamond Awards will be presented on Feb. 2 at the historic Kohl Mansion in Burlingame.
