Marathon to Pump $1 Million into Local Economy

Participants will rent hotel rooms, buy food, put gas in their cars. And note to pharmacies--stock up on adhesive bandages!

The Half Moon Bay International Marathon is still two months away, but organizers already have good news for the business community. "The event is sold out again," stated Eric Vaughan, Executive Director of the marathon. "So far we are bringing over 600 hotel nights to the Coastside/Bay Area. If you do the math, we're easily bringing over $1 million in direct economic benefit to our community!"

The marathon is billed as "26.2 miles of running heaven." What would heaven be without angels, and for major events such as this, angels take the form of volunteers.

Last year about 200 people volunteered. This year, marathon organizers are seeking both individuals and businesses to pitch-in. There's a volunteer sign-up form on the marathon's web site.

If you're training for the marathon, continue to follow the blog of . Dill is the Director of Training for the marathon.
