VIDEO: The Lighthouse String Band: Celtic Music on the Coast

The Lighthouse String Band, a mainstay in our local coffeehouses, is playing at the Wine Bar tonight for St. Patrick's Day.

The Lighthouse String Band is a mainstay in the local coffeehouses of Half Moon Bay where they perform all acoustic, traditional Irish and old-time American music.

On Sunday afternoons, they host a jam session and invite players to sit in. Each week, the session alternates between the La Di Da Cafe on Purissma St and Peet's Coffee next to New Leaf. If you play, this is a great opportunity to meet other musicians. If you are there to listen, you will leave smiling.

The band members, who all play a variety of instruments and hail from a variety of cultures, are Raymond Tsang, Mary Maguire, Dave Sahn, Robin Fish and Helen Jansson-Tsang.

Of course they are playing on St Patrick's Day. Thursday March 17, you can see them at The Wine Bar, located in the Harbor Village Mall in Princeton Harbor. For full details -- as well as other celebrations in Half Moon Bay -- click here to read our guide to St. Patrick's Day.

You will find an up-to-date calendar and list of venues, along with more information about the band, their music and a CD for sale on their web site: lighthousestringband.com

Fantastic Irish Music for St. Patricks Day!
We really enjoyed it - but please can you politely ask the lady in the middle to wear some trousers next time!!!!!
Had to use a parental lock on this clip in case the kids viewed it!!!!

Thank you for commenting and appreciating the music. I'm sorry you object to my photography. It is my job as a photographer to portray the subjects in the most flattering way possible. I appreciate the feedback.

If you enjoyed this, you should check out the band live on Sundays at the Blue Sky Cafe, La Di Da and Peet's Coffee.

Hmmm, I kept looking for anything which needed a "parental lock" in the video & images of this band. Couldn't find it. Maybe Big Mick saw something I couldn't? Last I checked, bare legs are acceptable in public, and I saw nothing one doesn't see in life, and even less than on network t.v. Trousers, indeed. I can recall a time when ladies rarely wore trousers at all (showing my age here). At least it wasn't a sitting bagpiper in a kilt - you know what they wear under their kilts, right? Or what hey don't wear, to be precise. Stuart, nice video of a very cool band.

Thanks Deb. I'd hate for anything to take away from the music and enthusiasm of the artists.

The name of this tune is "Farewell to Erin". The complete song, from the beginning, can be seen on You Tube here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tp4dzv0E1AA&hd=1
