Wanted - Ideas on where to plant fruit trees

When I was growing up, (seriously, dinosaurs roamed - Los Altos Hills BEFORE mansion's arrived), on the walk home from school, our "snacks" came from trees.
There were cherry trees, apricot trees, apple trees, plum trees, pear trees, blackberry bushes, and more.
There were NO fast food places - we were sustained from the "fruit of the Earth".
My passion has been to plant the fruit trees along areas where children walk home from schools in this area.
Can anyone suggest a way on how to accomplish this, and see the idea become 'fruitful'?
