American Indians Sample the Bounty of the Coast's Harvest

American Indians from South Dakota, Wisconsin, Washington and California visited the Del Sur Farm in Pescadero on October 12. They toured the farm and harvested some fresh produce.

The farm visit was among events during the 11th annual PATHSTAR Alcatraz Swim Week (October 6-14) in San Francisco and Bay Area locales. The swim week is a component of a year-round program to encourage healthy eating and a stay active lifestyle among American Indian and Alaska Natives.

In past years, American Indian groups visited the Half Moon Bay Farmer's Market and local ranches, returning home to start community vegetable gardens and use information they learned on ways to grow and market fresh produce in their own communities. Visit www.pathstar.org for more information.
