2011 California Coastal Cleanup Day

Volunteers are needed to pick up plastic bags, cigarette butts, cans, bottles and other trash on the annual California Coastal Cleanup Day.

More than 4,200 volunteers picked up about 42,000 pounds of trash from San Mateo County's beaches during the event last year.

Participants also can sign onto a Pollution Solution Team, which continues to pick up trash throughout the year.
