HMB Brewery Pairs Perfectly at Cheese Festival

Hear tips from Half Moon Bay Brewery's brew master on which beers to pair with certain cheese.

Cheese was the main attraction this weekend at the California’s Artisan Cheese Festival at the Petaluma Sheraton, but beer from Half Moon Bay Brewery was a solid supporting actor.

Now in its seventh year, the festival brought together artisan cheesemakers, brewers, wineries and guests for three days of cheese tasting and appreciation.

Half Moon Bay Brewery made an appearance as one of the over 75 vendors at the grand finale of the Festival, the Marketplace. The beer was a perfect pairing to the hundreds of cheese samplings available.

Tunnel Vision IPA, Maverick's Amber Ale and Irish dry stout were all available for washing down a sample of smoked cheddar or aged gouda.

"The sweet amber ale would go well with a smoked cheese, a smoked cheddar and things like that," said Dan Costa, Half Moon Bay Brewery's brew master.

“The festival is a much-anticipated, cheese-lover’s paradise and allows guests to see every step of the farm-to-table process of cheesemaking, while highlighting the extraordinary local talent we have in this field,” said Festival Director Judy Groverman Walker.

Artisan Cheese Tasting & Marketplace

The finale brought together more than 75 artisan cheesemakers, winemakers, brewers and chefs to sample and sell their products directly to attendees in this feast for the senses. Attendees discovered the next wave of local, hand-crafted cheeses, boutique wines and artisan-brewed beers as well as interesting cheese products, books and recipes.
