Lady Washington Makes Another Appearance in Half Moon Bay

The tall ship is expected this Thursday to visit Pillar Point Harbor on its 2013-14 California coastal tour.

On Thursday, the Lady Washington from Seaport Landing, a 25-acre former industrial property located on the south shore of the Chehalis River in Aberdeen, Wash., is scheduled to return to Pillar Point Harbor, opening the decks to the public for tours and tall ship excursions on the Pacific Ocean.

Launched in 1989, the brig Lady Washington is a working replica of one of the first U.S.-flagged ships to explore the west coast of North America. Owned and operated by the non-profit Grays Harbor Historical Seaport Authority, she travels to more than a dozen California ports annually to deliver living history educational programs to young people and adults.

The vessel has appeared in TV programs, including recent episodes of the ABC-TV series Once Upon A Time. The ship appeared as HMS Interceptor in the 2003 Disney movie Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl. She also appeared in the music video for hip-hop artist Macklemore’s “Can’t Hold Us,” which has been viewed more than 133 million times.

Lady Washington has a limited number of slots available for one-hour and three-hour educational programs for K-12 students. Schools designated Title I by the U.S. Dept. of Education are eligible for large discounts on pricing. For program reservations, contact Roxie Underwood, education programs manager, at 800-200-5239.

Walk-on tours are self-guided opportunities to learn more about Lady Washington and her travels. Crews are available to speak with visitors and explain her mission. A $3 donation per person is appreciated. No reservations are required. An Adventure Sail features an on-the-ocean sailing experience aboard an authentic tall ship, with opportunities to help the crew raise a sail, learn a sea shanty, or steer the vessel, conditions permitting. Tickets are $39 all ages. Buy tickets at www.historicalseaport.org or call 800-200-5239.
