Mountain Lion Spotted on Residential Street

The creature was spotted by a newspaper delivery person.

A mountain lion was spotted on a residential street in Woodside early this morning, San Mateo County emergency officials said.

The cat was seen by a newspaper delivery person in the 300 block of Raymundo Drive at about 4:40 a.m.

San Mateo County sheriff's deputies were dispatched to the rural area and checked the neighborhood but did not see the animal, meaning it could still be on the loose locally.

This incident comes roughly one week after two mountain lion cubs were spotted repeatedly in residential neighborhoods in Half Moon Bay, prompting California Department of Fish and Game representatives to shoot the animals out of concern for public safety.

Last year, a mountain lion was spotted on a neighborhood street in Redwood City, also prompting authorities to shoot the animal out of concern for public safety.

Anyone who encounters a mountain lion is advised to face the animal, make noise and try to appear larger, and to throw rocks or other objects at the cat.

There are far worse people roaming and driving on our streets than these mountian lions. Thankfully we don't make a news event out of all those suspicions. And keep your guns packed away please.

If I ever see a mountain lion in my neighborhood (not a very far-fetched idea, since I live near the hills)... well, sorry neighbors, I will keep that information entirely to myself and will NOT call the police or anyone else to come and kill the animal. Get a clue. If you're afraid of wildlife, then don't live near the hilly or wooded areas of the suburbs. And keep an eye on small children, regardless... and keep your small pets indoors, regardless.
