What a Show! Thunder, Lightning Strike Coast Monday Night
More than 11,000 strikes were reported around the Bay Area Monday night.

Thunder and lightning strikes were reported in San Mateo and Santa Cruz counties Monday tonight, according to the National Weather Service.
Starting at about 10:30 p.m. lightning strikes were reported near Half Moon Bay, Pescadero and the Santa Cruz mountains.
More than 11,000 strikes were reported around the Bay Area since 8 p.m., according to the National Weather Service.
There were no reports of lightning-caused fires in the area.
Still, since Sunday evening, California has been pummeled with thousands dry lightning strikes that have sparked over a hundred new wildfires, said Cal Fire department information officer Daniel Berlant. While most of those fires have been contained to small spots, strong winds and dry conditions have allowed several to grow rapidly.
Currently, firefighters are battling 11 major wildfires and complexes with over 6,500 firefighters on the frontlines, according to Berlant.

A Red Flag Warning remains in effect for most of the foothills and mountains of Northern California and Bay Area due to the possibility of dry lightning in combination with gusty winds. The public is asked to be cautious during the Red Flag Warning and to do their part in preventing wildfires.
