Love the Coast? Make Your Valentine's Day Special Right Here

The Coastside brings heart to Valentine's Day, with several choices for treating those you love to something special.

Valentine’s Day is Monday, February 14, and whether you’re a from-the-heart planner or a last minute guru of romance, we have a few suggestions we’re sure you will love.

Wanting to make for an entire weekend of romance?  Your coastal options are endless, with drives along the coast, hikes on our many trails, and stops at your favorite eateries or shops.

If you desire a true getaway, head to the Oceano Hotel and Spa, with its view of and Romantic Valentine’s Day Retreat Package, complete with luxurious accommodations in a Deluxe Suite, a bottle of sparkling wine, single red rose, chocolate dipped strawberries and breakfast in bed for two.  All is for $349 per night, plus tax, with space limited, so act fast.  This offer is good February 11-14. 

You needn’t be a guest to enjoy some spa time.  A Valentine’s package is available this weekend or on Valentine’s Day itself, and includes a 20-minute soak, an hour-long side-by-side couples' Swedish massage, and a glass for champagne for the special price of $245.

If a meal is what you’ve bargained for, several local restaurants are offering prix fixe menus, created especially for Valentine’s Day.  Reservations are always recommended.   The Moss Beach Distillery, overlooking the Pacific Ocean, will offer extended weekend and Valentine’s Day hours.  Featuring Distillery clam chowder, butternut squash lasagna, pina colada cake, and many other choices, dining is $75 per person.  Near downtown Half Moon Bay, Cetrella also plans a special meal, with duck breast, rib eye, tantalizing starters, and chocolate fondant, to name a few choices, all for $65 per diner.

For something more casual, head to Half Moon Bay Brewing Company for its Valentine’s Day Dinner Pairing, featuring their local beers and LaNebbia wine or champagne.  For $38.50, choose from three entrees, two salads, and desserts. 

Or check out the 18-hole indoor miniature golf course nearby, Kings and Knights, at the Shoppes at Harbor Village. For Valentine’s Day, Kings and Knights will be open from 4pm-6pm.  Rounds are just $5.

For date night and Valentine’s entertainment, Noises Off!, the hilarious Broadway smash, is playing at the Coastal Rep Theatre, celebrating its 25th year.  Running this weekend, with 8pm performances on Friday and Saturday, and a special 2pm performance on Sunday, tickets are $15-$30, depending on the date you choose.  Down by the beach, the invites you to check out the sounds of jazz vocalist Tessa Souter, including selections from her CDs Obsession and Listen Love at 4pm on Sunday, February 13.  Tickets are $30 at wwwbachddsoc.org/.

And then there are the traditional flowers and chocolates.  Half Moon Bay offers a wide variety of blooms and deals, thanks to its local nurseries and growers.  is offering a dozen roses for $15 and assorted varieties for $3 a bunch.  They will be open on Valentine's Day from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.  And if you’re really sweet on someone, head to in Strawflower Village, where there’s something for every lover of candy.
