PHOTO OF THE DAY: Cute Little Weiner

I took this photo at Año Nuevo State Park during the first weekend of March of a young elephant seal. Elephant seal pups are called "weiners."

Elephant seals gain just over 200 pounds in their first month. The same thing happens to me over the holidays.

About the photographer:

Phil McGrew is a former nuclear engineer who lives in San Francisco. An avid amateur photographer and currency trader, Phil’s favorite photography subjects include calculating lunar and solar alignments with prominent Bay Area landmarks.  One of his photos is featured in the March issue of San Francisco Magazine.
