The back story: I took this image while traveling in Nepal last summer. We left Katmandu and trekked for approximately 23 days, climbing high into the mountains towards Tibet. We passed through tiny villages, beautiful wide meadows and steep crags, with our final destination of Lo-Manthang.
Tenzin, a local man, who was studying to be a high lama, traveled with us and was our official horseman. He was in charge of the 3 horses that we alternately rode on our journey. When we arrived at his village, Tenzin invited us all to have tea with his mother and grandmother at their house. The houses of the most villagers are dark inside, with hard dirt floors and low ceilings. Everyone in the family wanted to have their pictures taken, which was tricky because it was so dark inside the house. I was lucky enough to get a good photograph of Tenzin's mother. She is 51 years old.
I took this photograph using my small Canon digital camera.
