Pumpkin Festival Poster Design Contest Opens Today
Design the winning poster for the 2012 Half Moon Bay Art & Pumpkin Festival and take home $1,000.
In the middle of June's sunny skies, it's hard to imagine the pumpkins among us that will take over Half Moon Bay come fall.
Nevertheless, it's time to get ready for the once again. On Wednesday, festival organizers met with nonprofit organizations who operate food booths as an annual fundraiser.

Today, the Pumpkin Festival and the in downtown Half Moon Bay announced their 6th annual .
The winning design will be featured on the official festival poster as well as all additional promotional material for the 2012 festival.

"The contest has become an important part of the festival's identity," said Shirley Kellicutt, member of the Coastal Arts League and chair of the contest committee.
Each year, designs are submitted from across the country. Anyone can enter the contest, though organizers emphasize that due to the detailed product specifications required, art students, professional artists and graphic designers might be particularly interested in entering.
While the winning entry will take home $1,000, $500 will be awarded for the second place, and $250 will be given to two third place winners. The artist whose design is deemed "Most Creative" will receive $100.
In October, the public votes on a People's Choice Award at the Coastal Arts League Gallery. The take-home prize for this honor is $250.
Many people stop by the gallery to weigh in on their favorite design, according to Kellicutt. "The interest and enthusiasm is always tremendous," she says.
Accepted entries will be on display at the gallery during October. View a select gallery of the finalists from last year's contest .
The submission deadline for the contest is September 19, 2011.
