‘Taming of the Shrew’ Opens Tomorrow

An outdoor theater behind Cameron's Inn and Pub provides the venue for Half Moon Bay's newest theater company.

Shakespeare has arrived in Half Moon Bay.

A new theater company — the Half Moon Bay Shakespeare Company — opens its inaugural season with "The Taming of the Shrew" tomorrow.

Cameron's Inn and Pub "outback," as owner Cameron Palmer calls it, is the theatrical venue. The idea is to order food and cocktails from the restaurant and bar, dress in layers and enjoy Shakespeare outside — fog or shine.

Founding artistic director Robert Pickett sets the comedy in 1950′s Padua, Italy, with music and dancing from the era. The show features 19 actors from all over the Bay Area. Locals will recognize many Pacificans and Coastsiders on- and off-stage, contributing their talents to the production as well. Costumes and choreography are by El Granada resident, Lisa Claybaugh.

The mission of the company is to "produce Classic Theatre each summer in the Community of Half Moon Bay, California that is accessible, entertaining, challenging, educational and enlightening for both audiences and players alike."
