The body retrieved from the bottom of a cliff in Pescadero this morning is that of a deceased male in his 40s, according to the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office.

"There are no obvious signs of foul play," said Deputy Rebecca Rosenblatt, "although we have to wait for the coroner to determine the official cause of death."

The deceased man was dressed in jeans and a T-shirt. He was found by a backpacker walking on Highway 1 this morning at approximately 8:20 a.m. The backpacker called the Sheriff's Office to report a man 90 feet down the side of the cliff adjacent to Highway 1 about one to two miles north of Pescadero Creek Road.

Authorities found a truck nearby but it has not been determined if the truck belonged to the man, Rosenblatt said.

Sheriff's Office patrol, investigations, as well as a Cliff Rescue unit, State Parks and the San Mateo County Coroner's office responded to the scene, which was cleared by noon Thursday.
