Bay Area Endures Spare the Air Day
Residents encouraged to put away their car keys, leave gas-powered lawn mowers and leaf blowers in the garage, and take other steps to Spare the Air for everyone.
Bay Area residents are encouraged to drive less and reduce energy usage as part of today's Spare the Air Day, the Bay Area Air Quality District
announced Monday.
The Spare the Air Day marks the second of the summer season and first since June 16.

Driving less and cutting energy use is encouraged by the agency to reduce pollution levels, which can heighten health concerns when temperatures are high, the air district said.
In addition to using alternative transportation means, the air district is encouraging the residents to avoid using gas-powered leaf blowers or lawn mowers, lighter fluid on barbecues, and using aerosol spray cans and hairspray.
