Oh, Christmas Tree, Oh, Christmas Tree

Your guide to finding the perfect Christmas tree in Half Moon Bay and the surrounding area.

It’s a misty, cool morning the day after Thanksgiving, and the Woodward’s from Burlingame are at Santa’s Tree Farm off of Highway 92, hunting for the perfect cut-your-own Christmas tree, "a family tradition we look forward to every Thanksgiving weekend," said Sue Woodward, surveying the forest of organic redwood trees before her.

“We get our tree and decorate it over the Thanksgiving weekend every year so we can enjoy our tree for the entire month of December,” she said.

Indeed, it's that time of year again, when pumpkins are pushed aside and Christmas trees make their appearance in farm fields and lots along Highway 92 and the Coast.

Brian and Rachel King from San Mateo are celebrating their first Christmas together as newlyweds and are excited to pick out their first tree together at 4'Cs off Highway 92.

"We don't have a big place and don't want to spend a lot, so we're looking for a Douglas Fir that's about four feet, maybe a bit taller," said Rachel King.

This shouldn't be hard to do with several tree farms and providers located along the Highway 92 corridor, into Half Moon Bay and beyond, all easily accessible and offering a wide variety of tree species, sizes, and prices, along with extras like trimmings, garland, and natural wreaths.

Bring cash when tree shopping; not all forms of credit are accepted, if at all, by some tree vendors.

Whether you’re looking for a small tabletop trees (three feet and under), a cut your own, organic, flocked or flame retardant tree, there is an option for you at one of the following tree farms and vendors.

Cozzolino’s, San Mateo Road (on Highway 92), Half Moon Bay. Open seven days a week from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Tree shoppers will want to consider the newcomer in town: Cozzolino's off Highway 92 next door to Spanish Town at 501 San Mateo Rd. This is the first time Tony Cozzolino has tried his hand at selling Christmas trees, transforming his pumpkin patch of four years into a tree lot. What makes this tree vendor so unique is that it’s the only one open at night, featuring tabletop trees to 10-foot trees as well as wreaths and poinsettias.

“It’s hard for people who work all day to go out and find a tree since most places close at 5 p.m. on the Coast” said Cozzolino. “So with the overhead lights we can stay open late and cater to people who want to look for a tree later in the day and evening.”
