Signs New and Old Around Town

Our column brings you the latest in small business news for the Half Moon Bay Coastside.

While officially closed their doors for good this week, and the market's classic wooden sign sadly collects dust in the front window, a handful of local businesses have been busy sprucing up their look and putting up some new signage.

Take a look at what these local businesses have been up to lately.

kept the old classic Pepsi sign above their door on Highway 92 but painted new bright red lettering on the store's clapboard siding, inviting people in for their hot coffee, BBQ sandwiches and of course the main draw, bait & tackle.

Half Moon Flowers on Capistrano next to Harbor Village also recently hand painted on the front of their building, but in the form of bright cheery flowers and a splash of colorful polka dots.

Also on Capistrano, put up a new bold blue banner a couple of months ago in the back of the restaurant next to the beer garden, reminding patrons of their Mavericks beers and ales.

on Highway 1 got a fresher look with their new sign, touting a Mongolian BBQ menu. That should draw some more interest to this mainstay restaurant. Another Chinese food establishment had a facelift. in Strawflower Village completely remodeled and added new signage that displays pictures of some of their signature dishes.

On Main Street, put up a new retro-looking sign a few months ago and is waiting to install the neon lighting, explains owner Steve Barber.

put a sign up about their wood-fire pizza. Who knew? Perhaps this is something many locals are yet to try.

Off Main Street, put up a new sign almost a year ago but it's so unique it's worth mentioning. He painted it himself and exhibits other bright and colorful paintings similar to the style of the sign in his salon for those interested in going in and checking it out.

That sign at the Half Moon Bay Inn is godawful. And they are going to put it in neon? Seriously?! How tacky.
