New Leaf Now Carries Recycled Plastic Bags

New Leaf in Half Moon Bay has a 10 cents plastic bag option. They're made of 100 percent recycled plastic, are 100 percent recycleable, and they're sturdy enough to reuse them.

But don't forget to bring your own bags for New Leaf's Envirotoken program. Customers receive tokens worth 10 cents to give to local non-profit environmental organizations for each grocery bag they reuse.

Every May New Leaf publishes a ballot and customers vote for their top six candidates. Each store elects its own candidates depending on the votes generated at each store.

Since the inception of the program in 1993 at the behest of customer Ron Goodman, New Leaf shoppers have reused almost 4 million bags, resulting in adonation of over $316,026, and saving over 5671 trees.

New Leaf’s Envirotoken 2013-2014 Election Results for Half Moon Bay includes:

Friends of Fitzgerald Marine Reserve
Coastside Land Trust
Richard J. Elkus Ranch
Coastside State Parks Association - NEW!
Pie Ranch - NEW!
California Certified Organic Farmers - CCOF - NEW!

Have you tried out the new bags yet? Tell your neighbors about it in the comments.
