Names to Float Your Boat

One of the coolest things about where we live is that we are a short walk from the harbor. Have you been to Pillar Point Harbor? There is the annual “Lighting of the Boats” around Christmastime – a favorite seasonal activity. There are also the deals on fresh crab, during that season. The seafood restaurants there – Princeton Seafood and Barbara’s – are excellent, and you know that the catch is FRESH every day!

The smell of the salt air and cool breezes, along with the distant sound of the fog horn or the clang of a boat’s bell, along with the ever-present seagulls make walking around the harbor a soothing pastime.

It's  fun to read the names of the vessels there. Sometimes the boat’s names have a humorous slant, relying heavily on puns. Favorites include “The Abventure”, The Profish’nt, and "The Lost Claws". Some of the boats are docked there year ‘round, but others are visitors, so there will always be new ones to check out.

Most of the time, vessel owners will follow the tradition of naming their boat after a person, usually a female. There are scores of websites with lists of clever names for boats, if you are undecided. What would you name your boat?
