Am I Better Off ... ?

This is the wrong question. I am worse off but the real question is: "With which candidate for President am I likely to be better off four years from now?"

The western world, indeed the whole world, is about to discover a fact that they don't want to hear, namely that we have been living in a very unusual time. For the last 150 years or more, we have had access to CHEAP fossil fuels. But most of these cheap fuels are running low and the replacement fuels, renewables, unconventional fossil fuels, nuclear, etc., are much more costly than oil and coal were during the last century. Further, the world's population is both growing and desirous of high energy living standards. There is no indication that our planet can support such a high energy usage for all who want it.

What can YOU do in such a situation? For one thing, find ways to reduce your energy usage. Learn what others with the same concerns are doing. Talk to your family, friends and neighbors and find out what they are thinking about this issue. And don't pay attention to those who say that there is plenty of oil and gas if only we agree to destroy our planet in the futile race to get it out of the ground.
