Coastside Water Rates and Director to Change

The Coastside County Water District (CCWD) appoints director vacancy and approves rate increase of 12 percent to customers.

The Coastside County Water District (CCWD) announced last week that the District’s board of directors voted to appoint a new director to fill the vacancy left by former director Jerry Donovan.

The new director would serve the remainder of Donovan’s term, which ends in November of 2013.

Donovan, who served as the board’s president, recently resigned his position effective June 3, 2012.

The former Half Moon Bay mayor and retired San Francisco police officer has been elected to a series of local offices for more than 20 years on the Coastside, including the Half Moon Bay Fire Protection District and the Half Moon Bay City Council. He is planning to move to Idaho.

Also last week at a board meeting, CCWD directors approved the fiscal year 2012-13 operations and maintenance budget, the capital improvement program as well as a 12 percent rate increase for its 6,400 customers "as the maximum possible rate increase," said CCWD general manager David Dickson.

The capital improvement program and 12 precent rate increase both passed on a 3-1 vote with director Bryan Hannegan voting no on both, said Dickson.

The recent rate hikes are the result of district capital projects such as the $7 million upgrade at the Denniston Treatment Plant. The proposed increase would raise about $750,000.

For those interested in applying for the CCWD director vacancy, contact Coastside County Water District for more information at 650-726-4405.

Applicants must submit a statement of interest and qualifications to the District’s General Manager no later than the end of business on Friday, June 29, 2012.

Coastside County Water District directors must be registered voters within the District and reside full time in the District.

The Board of Directors will appoint a new director by Aug. 2, 2012.
