Flood Warning Issued for Pescadero

Residents and others in the area should move to higher ground and be especially cautious at night, when it is harder to see signs of flooding.

The National Weather Service issued a flood warning for Pescadero Creek in San Mateo County Sunday afternoon and flash flood warnings for San Mateo and Santa Cruz counties.

Pescadero Creek reached flood stage levels shortly before 5 p.m. Sunday, and creek levels were expected to continue to rise, according to the National Weather Service alert. Other coastal creeks may also flood as well.

The Town of Pescadero could be affected by flooding, as well as roads and trails in Butano State Park.

Campers and hikers should be very aware of creeks and streams, especially in hilly terrain where low crossing can become dangerous very quickly, the Weather Service said.

State Highway 84 is closed in two counties tonight, according to the California Department of Transportation.

The road has been closed in San Mateo County at La Honda due to rocks and a downed power line in the road, according to the California Highway Patrol.

In Alameda County it is closed near Palomeres Road due to a large rock slide.
