Mountain Lion Sighting This Morning in Portola Valley
The animal was spotted at 8 a.m.
A mountain lion was seen at 8 a.m. this morning in the vicinity of the Pony Tracks Ranch in Portola Valley, California, according to Dan Bennett, who sent the message out via the San Mateo County Non-Emergency Alert System at 2:24 pm today.
The Pony Tracks Ranch is located at 499 Old Spanish Trail.
Bennett's message dispensed the following advice on what to do if one encounters a mountain lion:

If you see a mountain lion DO NOT APPROACH IT, especially one that is feeding or with offspring. Most mountain lions will try to avoid confrontation.
Here are a few tips:
Avoid hiking or jogging when mountain lions are most active—dawn, dusk, and at night.
Keep a close watch on small children.
If you encounter a mountain lion, do not run; instead, face the animal, make noise and try to look bigger by waving your arms; throw rocks or other objects.
Pick up small children.
