One-Way Traffic Control, Construction on Highway 1 Suspended Indefinitely

Caltrans found that the hillside it had intended to retain with a concrete barrier had deteriorated further than expected.

The Caltrans project to install a new concrete barrier along a portion of Highway 1, which would have reduced the roadway to this week, has been suspended, officials said.

Caltrans geologists and engineers found that storm damage to the hillside about half a mile south of Linda Mar Boulevard that the wall was to retain has progressed past the limits of the project design, Caltrans spokesman Bob Haus said.

More work will than was originally planned will be needed, but Haus did not indicate when it would happen. There will be no traffic control this week.
