Pescadero Named 'America's Happiest Seaside Town'

Last year, Half Moon Bay made Coastal Living's top 10 list of the best places to live on the coast.

This year, it's Pescadero, coming in at No. 10, the seaside hamlet known best by Coastsiders as the tiny farming and ranching town outside of Half Moon Bay that's home to the Pigeon Point Lighthouse, Duartes restaurant, Phipps Ranch, Harley Farms, Bike Hut, and miles of uncrowded beaches, farmland, and great off-road bicycling and hiking.

So how did Coastal Living pick Pescadero? They began with reader nominations, plus all the past places they've lauded as Dream Towns. From there, they looked at the rank on the Gallup-Healthways Well-Being Index, percentage of sunny days, healthiness of beaches, commute times, crime ratings, walkability, standard of living and financial well-being of the locals, geographic diversity, and our editors' assessment of each town's "coastal vibe." The result: an all-star list for 2013 that includes Pescadero!
