Ghost Hunting on Johnston Street in Half Moon Bay [PHOTOS]

The Haunted House comes alive each year during the annual Pumpkin Festival.

I smuggled a camera into the historic Johnston barn behind the old city jail to investigate stories of it being haunted. I found pirates and was able to capture a few blurry images of ghosts that ravaged our Coast years past.

Actually, the Haunted Johnston Barn is an annual affair hosted by the Coastside Young Actor's Workshop during the Half Moon Bay Pumpkin Festival. The haunted barn features live (undead) actors from the Coastside Young Actors Workshop alongside audio-animatronic figures, projected and transparent ghosts, intense lighting, sound, and fog effects, and unexpectedly dropping and shwooping objects caused by unseen forces. They raise money for their afterschool creative theatre for kids from kindergarten through 12th grade. View the video Patch captured last year.

The Johnston Barn is located behind the Historic Jail, at 505 Johnston Street, just one block from the festivities on Main Street, in Half Moon Bay. The Haunted Barn is open during the Pumpkin Festival, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday and Sunday, October 13-14. It is considered appropriate for families, however, children under 5 may find the experience too intense. Admission is $7 per person or $25 for a Family 4-pack. Children 3 and under are free. Proceeds benefit the non-profit children's theater group, The Coastside Young Actors Workshop. For more information call (650) 576-4754 or visit www.coastsideyoungactors.com.
