Stinky Odor in Half Moon Bay Causes Concern

There is no need for alarm. The stench is coming from the Soil Farm, working on a manure pile.

Half Moon Bay residents woke up this morning to a foul odor.

Some are even calling PG&E and the police it's so bad.

However, there is no need for alarm.

The odor — which to some may smell like a gas leak — is coming from the Soil Farm, working on a manure pile south of Half Moon Bay, and it should dissipate by the day's end as the work gets done.

The Soil Farm turns their compost pile every year and when they do, they receive visits from PG&E and the fire department, checking in about the odor and making sure it's not a gas leak.

Perhaps they could notify PG&E and authorities next time they are planning to do it?

I agree. It would save our police and fire departments from having to respond to non-emergency calls like this. I received a number of inquiries about it as well!

There should be a better way to do this. Turn them a bit less several times a year? This was awful!
