Take Caltrain to the St. Patrick's Day Parade in SF Saturday

Here's how to get to the parade that starts at 11:30 a.m. in San Francisco on Saturday.

Thinking you'd love to check out the St. Patrick's Day celebration and parade in the city this Saturday, but hate the thought of sitting in traffic and battling for a parking space with thousands of others?

Well, you're in luck — you can hop on Caltrain and ride it all the way up to the parade in downtown San Francisco.

The parade starts at the intersection of Second and Market streets at 11:30 a.m. It's known as one of the most fashionable parades in the country, dating back to 1852 and following the city’s iconic trolley tracks.

To get there, Caltrain riders can take the train to the final San Francisco stop at Fourth and King streets.

From there, they can cross the street and board Muni’s N-Judah or T-Third Metro Service and get off at the Montgomery Street Muni station, the start of the parade route.

People also can take Muni to the all-day St. Patrick’s Day Festival, which will be held at Joe Alioto Performing Arts Plaza, just outside San Francisco City Hall. It will include live music, Irish food and drinks, and business exhibits.

Caltrain offers hourly service on weekends plus two round-trip Baby Bullet express trains. Millbrae is the closest station to Burlingame that these trains reach.

The last Saturday train leaves San Francisco at 12:01 a.m. and makes all weekend local stops, all the way down to San Jose.

Caltrain does not allow alcohol on trains after 9 p.m. following a special event, according to Caltrain officials. Disruptive passengers will be asked to de-train.
