Viewfinder Photos: Swine Showmanship

The Half Moon Bay 4H Club competes at the San Mateo County Fair.

I've been halfway around the world, but I've never heard the term "Swine Showmanship." But then again, I was never a 4H member in my youth. On Wednesday, I had the opportunity to learn about it and take some fun pictures of the Half Moon Bay 4H Club demonstrating swine showmanship.

It appears to be a competition that judges not just the qualities of the pig being exhibited (which is what I expected at the County Fair) but, more importantly, the skill of exhibiting your pig's best qualities, not to mention the demeanor of the exhibitor. All in all, a serious competition that teaches hard work, planning, practice and sportsmanship.

I confess that I do not have the names of the participants or the winners and I appeal to our readers to help with that information. I hope you enjoy the pictures as much as I did taking them. Thank you for a great show.
