Mack McCray of the San Francisco Conservatory joins Joel Fan and Akimi Fukuhara, two of the finest emerging classical piano talents, for three individual 35-minute sets on the 9 foot Steinway. Programs to be announced onstage.
Akimi Fukuhara, a native of Osaka, Japan, started her career in Tokyo at age of thirteen. She has appeared in solo and chamber programs such as Alice Tully Hall, Carnegie Hall, Kennedy Center, Salle Cortot in Paris, Bertramka Villa in Prague, and throughout Japan. Fukuhara performed with Palo Alto Philharmonic, World Youth Symphony Orchestra in Interlochen and received top prizes at the 5 Towns Music Competition, the San Jose Young Artists Audition, and the Joyce Dutka Instrumental Competition. Praised in the NY Times for her “energetic” and “shapely read” performances, she continues her career from her home in New York.
As a member of the Silk Road Ensemble Joel Fan has appeared with Yo-Yo Ma in Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C., and appeared on Good Morning America and Late Night with David Letterman. Fan has performed as soloist with numerous orchestras, including the NY Philharmonic and Royal Stockholm Philharmonic. His debut album, World Keys, charted at #3 on Billboard's Classical Chart.
