Community Corner

TAKE BACK THE PARK

ADOPT A PARK, COMMUNITY CLEAN UP AND FREE SHAKESPEARE PERFORMANCE.

The Half Moon Bay Shakespeare Company is moving forward with a plan to adopt John L.
Carter Memorial Park as their new Shakespeare-in-the-Park outdoor home. Located off Main Street by the historic bridge, Carter Park honors the legacy of a man much loved by the Coastside community. You could call Mr. Carter the City’s founding father. Carter collected and delivered petition signatures to the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors back in 1958, a crucial step toward incorporating a new town. John Carter was elected first mayor.

On Saturday, July 27, it is all-hands-on-deck to clean up the park named in Mr. Carter’s honor.  Reaching out to generate community awareness, the HMB Shakespeare Company has plans to transform this neglected park into a premiere downtown outdoor special event and concert space, and the summer home of annual outdoor Shakespeare performances. Now in preparations for their third season, HMB Shakespeare hopes this ambitious plan to get the park cleaned up and re-planted will inspire community involvement. The ambitious long-term goal includes a stage with outdoor seating, restrooms and a dressing area for performers. Anyone interested in helping to
create an exciting outdoor venue in downtown Half Moon Bay for concerts under the stars and Shakespeare al fresco is welcome to contact HMB Shakespeare at halfmoonbayshakes@gmail.com
Volunteers for Take Back the Park are asked to bring friends, family, the kids, along with gardening gloves, lawn mowers, clippers, hedgers and wheel barrels. Landscaping, weeding, tilling will be the order of the day.

The Company will open HAMLET, Outback at Cameron's on August 30th.
