Community Corner
Tip-a-Cheer
Half Moon Bay High School Cheerleaders will be trading poms poms for notepads as they take orders at Princeton Seafood Company this Monday, Sept. 19 from 6 to 8 p.m.
Having just taken first place at a cheerleading camp in dance, cheer and overall performance, the squad qualifies for performance at the NFL Pro Bowl Game in Honolulu next year – but before heading to the tropical island, the team of 12 needs to raise $24,000 to get there. Princeton Seafood is rallying up community support by hosting "Tip-a-Cheer" here at the restaurant, the cheerleaders will collect the tips as well as 10 percent of the restaurant’s profits for the evening, including to-go orders. Maritsa Chew, the squad’s fundraising director and mother of one of the cheerleaders, says it’s a worthwhile experience both for the diners and the cheer squad. “Everybody has a great time,” she enthused. “Nobody can attend (the Pro Bowl) without the help from the community.”
On Monday, October 3, Princeton Seafood Company will hold a second Tip-a-Cheer benefiting Pop Warner’s cheerleading squad. They plan to use the money for travel expenses for their national competition.
