Free Reusable Bags Available to San Mateo County Residents

Nearly the entire county has banned plastic bags. Here's a great way locals can get reusables for free.

By Jacob Bourne

Friday is the San Mateo County Health System's Free Bag Friday, and you can have one of the reusable grocery bags above by sending one simple email.

All San Mateo County residents are eligible for a bag. Just send a note to rmelia@smcgov.org and indicate which bag you want. Bag A lays flat while Bag B is small and rolls up (and also looks like a tanktop).

Reusable bags are becoming more useful than ever with tons of plastic bag bans going into effect. So far, unincorporated San Mateo County has banned plastic bags as well as these cities within the county: Belmont, Brisbane, Burlingame, Colma, Daly City, East Palo Alto, Foster City, Half Moon Bay, Menlo Park, Pacifica, Portola Valley, Redwood City, San Bruno, San Carlos, San Mateo and South San Francisco.

Stay up to date with public health in the county by liking the Health System's Facebook page.

Find their post regarding the bags and share and tag your friends there to be eligible for a second bag.
