PHOTO OF THE DAY: Purisima Creek

Recent rains awaken Half Moon Bay creeks.

The long awaited winter storms brought rain to the coast this past week. Creeks in every canyon, many dry for the summer, came alive and flow to the sea.

Purisima Creek flows through a canyon filled with a redwood forest, ferns and banana slugs. The canyon is part of the Purisima Creek Redwoods Open Space Preserve. Muddy this time of year, the hiking trails are accessible just 4.5 miles south of Highway 92.
