VIEWFINDER VIDEO: Pillar Point Marsh

The bird refuge next door.

Just west of Princeton-by-the-Sea and on your way to Mavericks lies tiny Pillar Point Marsh. Fed by fresh and salt water, it is a bird refuge where you may sight up to 20% of North American bird species.

Overseen by Fitzgerald Marine Preserve, the marsh borders the popular trail that leads out to the Pillar Point breakwater, tide pools and Mavericks.

To find it, go to Pillar Point Harbor, take Capistrano Road from Highway 1, then wind your way through Princeton to West Point Road which encircles the marsh and dead ends in a parking lot.
