Half Moon Bay Man Elected District Governor for Peninsula Lions Clubs

Steve Picchi is a 42-year member of the Half Moon Bay Lions Club, noted for being one of the most active clubs in the district.

Half Moon Bay Lions Club member Steve Picchi was recently elected to become the District Governor for Lions of District 4-C4. The district governor is the highest-ranking Lions district position, providing policy and program oversight and administrative support for 42 Lions clubs in San Francisco and on the Peninsula

Picchi, a 42-year member of the Half Moon Bay Lions, is the second district governor in the 66-year history of the local club. The first was Si Moyer in 1977

Picchi noted that the International Association of Lions Clubs is the largest service organization in the world, dedicated to serving the community with an emphasis on serving the needs of the visually and hearing impaired.

In addition, the Half Moon Bay Lions Club, established in 1947, is one of the most active Lions clubs in the district, with 35 members who raise funds to support various groups/programs, such as Rebuilding Together, scholarships at both Half Moon Bay High and Pescadero High schools, Little League, Senior programs and many more.

Picchi is retired from Pacific Gas and Electric after 30 years as a gas and electric construction supervisor. He also served on the Half Moon Bay Planning Commission for seven years.

When asked what his main goal for governing the Lions district forward was, Picchi said, “To increase both membership and service to our communities, and to involve youth in community service. I plan to continue implementation of a strategic plan which aims at improving the membership experience amongst the various clubs. Another is attracting young people to the Leo Clubs in the region, which in turn will lead them to become Lion members in the future.”

He plans to utilize a new motto “Blended to Perfection; Service, Teamwork, Tradition” which describes his goal of providing service to the community through teamwork while taking advantage of our past experiences.

“Vision without action is day dreaming, while action without vision is a nightmare," he said, explaining that this will be the district’s proactive approach to bring new members to the organization.

Picchi will be installed as the Lions District Governor, for District 4-C4, at the Lions Clubs International Convention in Hamburg, Germany, during the first week of July 2013. The new Lions year starts July 1, 2013 and ends June 30, 2014.
