Predicted large swells along the San Mateo County Coast triggered the National Weather Service (NWS) to issue a high surf advisory Friday morning. The advisory will take effect at 5 p.m. Saturday and is scheduled to end at 5 a.m. on Monday.
The westerly swells are projected to be between 15 to 20 feet with steep breakers rising up to 22 feet at some locations, according to the NWS.
The advisory states that the large breakers will have a "significant run up" at some locations. Strong rip currents and localized beach erosion are also predicted.
Fishermen should avoid fishing off rocks and jetties and always keep an eye on the ocean, the NWS said.
Other areas included in the advisory are the Point Reyes National Seashore, the Southern Monterey Bay coast and the Big Sur coast.
