Pescadero Posada Held Tonight

Annual walk through town enacts the journey of Joseph and Mary walking door to door to find a safe and warm place for the evening.

Pilgrims will be walking through the streets of Pescadero tonight as they look for a place to rest for the evening.

The procession is a Mexican Christmas tradition called La Posada. Organized by Pescadero's and local churches, the group will renact the journey of Joseph and Mary walking from door to door looking for evening shelter on their way to Bethlehem.

"Their journey reminds us of countless other pilgrims that sought safety over the generations and those that refused them shelter," wrote Puente's Executive Director Kerry Lobel in a message on the organization's website.

"This powerful narrative takes different forms in every faith tradition as we are reminded that each of us holds the responsibility to bring light to others, even in the darkest times," Lobel wrote.

St. Anthony's Church, the Pescadero Community Church, and St. Vincent de Paul of Pescadero are co-sponsors of the event.

The public is invited to join the posada, which departs at 6 p.m. tonight on Dec. 16 at St. Anthony's Church (696 North St., Pescadero). From St. Anthony's, the pilgrimage will walk to Pescadero Community Church (363 Stage Road) where a community celebration will follow with tamales, posole, music, raffles and Christmas stockings. Santa Claus will be attending as well.
