Hundreds Flock to Fitzgerald Marine Reserve Tidepools

Friday's low tide drew crowds interested in getting an up-close look at the resident marine life in Moss Beach.

Friday's low tide of -1.7 ft. brought large crowds out to the Fitzgerald Marine Reserve in Moss Beach to take advantage of an unusual opportunity: the chance to view exquisite marine life living in the reserve's .

Cars lined up on surrounding streets early, and the reserve's parking lot was full by 2:00 p.m. There appeared to be over 200 cars. California Ave. was streaming with people heading out to the reserve.

People weren't the only ones taking advantage of the low tide. I [Theroff] saw a seagull drop an urchin from high up in the sky twice. When the urchin hit the ground, it broke open so that the seagull could eat its contents.

I [Theroff] also saw sea stars (a few of the sunflower variety), lemon Nudibranchs, kelp crabs, harbor seals, many beautiful giant green anemones and lots of purple urchins.
