For the last few years, Half Moon Bay resident Nancy West and her boxer dog Riley have come to the local library to work with children interested in practicing their reading.
Held at library branches across San Mateo County, the Paws for Tales program was initiated as one of the Peninsula Humane Society's pet-assisted therapy programs.
Riley — who is a certified therapy dog that has been trained through the Peninsula Humane Society — is the only dog who participates in the monthly program at the .
West initiated the program at the library "three or four years ago," she says.
Riley also volunteers with West at Atria, an assisted living facility in Daly City.
