Prop S Town Hall Meeting Oct. 30

You have to ask yourself–when–or why–do the city's politicians avoid public town hall meetings about important topics that concern the city?

Join citizens, residents, and voters at the Proposition S Town Hall Meeting this Tuesday, October 30th at 6pm. Ask questions, clarify concerns, and hear directly from those who helped author the proposition - and those who require safe access in Imperial Beach.

The opposition to Proposition S, a group of politicians known as the 'Citizens Against Prop S', were given the opportunity to name the day, the time and the location of the event, however, Dee Mclean, the group's spokesperson, responded by saying; "We are all volunteers, and do not have time to participate in a town hall meeting."

About two weeks ago, the Citizens Against Prop S mailed a letter to all voter households in the city.  Out of the 14 names endorsing No on S - all 14 are politicians - one of which is a well known 'buddy' developer.

As a voter, you have to ask yourself - when or why - would politicians avoid public town hall meetings about such important topics that concern their city?

TOWN HALL MEETING FORMAT

Rachel Scoma, Esq will moderate Tuesday's Town Hall.

There will be three empty panelist chairs for; Dee Mclean, Diane Rose, and Mayor Jim Janney.  (If you happen to see any of them before Tuesday's Town Hall, please remind them that they are invited, and welcome to attend - no RSVP necessary - and their seats are reserved.)

There will be three panelists for YES on S; Marcus Boyd, Eugene Davidovich andVey Linville.

Panelists may bring notes and prepared statements to use during the meeting.

This will be a 90-minute panel discussion. Once the panel discussion begins, it will continue even if only one panelist remains on the stage.

Each panelist will open with a 60 second answer to the question "Why do you support - or oppose - Proposition S?"

After the initial responses, the moderator will invite people up to the microphone to ask questions of the panel.

  • Each panelist will be given about one minute to respond.
  • Response time may be limited by the moderator ensuring each panelists have equal time to weigh in.
  • Every attempt will be made to keep time equal among panelists - without guarantees. The moderator has the authority to manage response and discussion time.
  • Each panelist will be allowed one-and-a-half minutes for closing remarks.
  • Moderator will also keep time.
  • Audience members must remain quiet - and respectful - during the debate.

The Town Hall meeting will start at 6pm and will last until 7:30pm.

18 year olds are adults, they can vote & they can die for their country ! Why shouldn't they be entitled to the same rights as those whose ovaries have dried up or those who need Viagra to get it up ? Hundreds of patients smoke marijuana in Imperial Beach everyday, why should they be forced to leave town to buy it when they bring it back here to use anyway ? Upon closer inspection none of the arguments against the dispensaries have any merit at all & Health & Safety Code 11362.768 says that storefront collectives are legal everywhere in California & have been for years ! The matter has been fought in the courts, the patients have won & the days of attacking & disrespecting us are over at last ! Personally I hope the city defies the law, because my attorney thinks we could get a civil judgement in the hundreds of thousands of dollars against the city if they refuse to comply ! In fact since the present ban isn't enforceable you could open a dispensary on election day & if they close it you could file suit before the polls close ! I cite the law,I reference the statutes & yet those who are opposed pay no attention to the law & just keep repeating the same repugnant & repudiated rhetoric ! They're angry & oblivious to everything except their irrational fear of something they know absolutely nothing about ! Fortunately most of them won't sober up enough on election day to find their polling places, much less vote on this important issue ! It's 2012 for God's sake - Vote Yes on S !!!!

ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ come on Cheech, we all know you just want to make smoking weed legal. But you can drive 3 blocks outside of IB to do it. Smoking weed cures Nothing. It just make you forget about being sick. and going to work and watching your kids and doing anything other than eating burritos and watching Scooby Doo, grow up people please.
