Why a Triathalon on Easter?

Who is responsible for moving the Silicon Valley Triathalon to Half Moon Bay on Easter Sunday? Many people attend church services on Easter sunday morning and the addition of hundreds more cars and bikes on Highway 1 is going to make it very difficult for many families to attend church.
Don't the members of this community have a say in when these events are scheduled?

Did the community have any input about the scheduling of this event? If not, we should have. Easter is a major holiday. Our roads were already busy with families going to church and visitors from over the hill. 'Someone' from the City must have given approval for this. It's unfortunate that they're not keeping the interests of the locals in mind.

Today's HMB REview had a front page story about the traffic snarls caused by the triathalon. Apparently the Mayor approved it and someone in the HMB city hall signed off on the permit. According to the article the Harbor and County also granted permits. I've called the town hall and the organizer of the event to request that they have the decency not to schedule such an event in HMB on Easter Sunday morning again. I suggest that those in the community who share this view let city hall and the harbor district know that they don't want to see any events like this scheduled for Easter Sunday morning. They can have every other Sunday of the year for their events.

Not only did we miss our Easter Services, but I could not drive my daughter to the urgent care needed for immediate attention to her physical issues. Deplorable, thoughtless, etc., What were you thinking? It is an assault on the local community - and we are the ones who vote you in. Duh!

I've called city hall and left a message for the city manager and spoken to the organizer of the event. I suggest that you and any other people who were affected by this let the Mayor - who approved it, the interim city manager and the harbor commission know how much inconvenience this caused so many people. There was virtually NO NOTICE given to the community about this - despite what the organizer claims. No one I know ever saw a flier about this event. We need to let the politicians who are supposed to represent us - all the people - no just the hotel owners who filled their hotel rooms. Let them know that we won't tolerate events like this in our community on Easter Sunday morning. We are not a public park that exists for the recreational activities of the whole Bay area. We are a community of families who live, work and worship here on Sundays who deserve some consideration.
