New Leaf Turns Five!

Hundreds of Coastsiders turned out Saturday, July 16 for the fun and food at New Leaf Community Markets’ 5th anniversary celebration. A good time was had by all and no one went home hungry, myself included!

Out in front of the store, the crowd was entertained by the Robin Campbell Band who rocked out through the afternoon with blues, funk, and Robin’s own version of high energy 60s and 70s rock favorites.

I started out with a Sunshine veggie burger hot off the grill and then enjoyed a refreshing scoop of Coconut Bliss, a vegan delight. I then moved on to graze at some of the 30+ vendors offering tastes in every department.

A large variety of products lured me to taste -- from luscious French macaroons to Mama’s Meatballs. One of my new favorites is the Beeta Ganoush -- a delicious dip or spread made with organic beets, almonds and garlic, made by Farm Fresh Solutions.  In addition to using it as a dip with veggies, I’ll use it in sandwiches and wraps as an alternative to mustard or mayonnaise.

Several wine and beer merchants were on hand. I enjoyed speaking with Dennis of Pat Paulsen Vineyards and trying their rich, flavorful blends. Their wines have been served in the White House – and now we can drink them here in Half Moon Bay!
