Belmont police are searching for two men they said tried to break
into a home in a downtown neighborhood Tuesday afternoon, and may have been
casing other homes to burglarize.
According to Belmont police spokesperson Capt. Pat Halleran, at
about 1:35 p.m., a resident called police to report that two men
knocked on the front door of a home in the 1300 block of Sixth Avenue. When
the resident did not answer, the men reportedly went to the back door and
began jiggling the handle.
Police said it appears the resident startled the
men and they fled.
The suspects are described as black men in their 20s, with thin,
muscular builds. One man was wearing a purple hoodie, the other a green
hoodie, and both were wearing backpacks, police said.
A silver sedan was seen parked on the street near the home, police
