Blotter: Crab Poachers Nabbed at Tunitas Creek, Girl on Acid 'Freaking Out'

Here's what went down in and around Half Moon Bay over the weekend.

Friday, Aug. 2

7 p.m. to 6:15 a.m. – Johnston at Mill, Half Moon Bay - Burglary from vehicle - Deputy took report of theft from vehicle, when the victim reported his vehicle window had been broken and a camera taken from the vehicle. The damage to the vehicle was estimated at $460 and the camera valued at $500.

10:02 p.m. - 11th @ Cabrillo Hwy Montara - Possession controlled substance, Possession of “billy” club, Possession concentrated cannabis/Unlawful paraphernalia - Deputy on patrol performed traffic stop on speeding vehicle, and found a 59 year old passenger from Foster City in the vehicle to be on parole and subject to search. A search of the vehicle revealed a “billy” club under the front driver’s seat, which was determined to belong to the driver. He was detained for possession of the club, and found in possession of a glass pipe with white residue, a tin containing numerous clear plastic baggies with suspected methamphetamine and hashish. He was arrested and transported to San Mateo County Jail.

Saturday, Aug. 3

1:31 a.m. - N. Cabrillo Hwy at Main  St., Half Moon Bay – DUI - Deputy on patrol observed vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed and performed traffic stop. The 31-year-old driver appeared to be intoxicated and failed field sobriety tests. She was arrested and transported to First Chance.

12 to 11 p.m. - 100 block of Higgins Canyon Rd., Half Moon Bay – Vandalism - Deputy took report of vandalism, when unknown suspect(s) pried open a window to a house, causing approximately $20 in damage.

11:41 p.m. - Frontage Rd at Wave, Half Moon Bay – DUI - Deputy on patrol observed vehicle traveling northbound on Highway 1 with its left turn signal on, then begin to drive in the center of the divided highway, at low speeds. The Deputy performed a traffic stop and the 50 year old driver from Half Moon Bay appeared to be intoxicated. He failed field sobriety tests and was arrested and transported to SM County Jail.

Sunday, Aug. 4

1:30 a.m. – 500 block of Marine Blvd., Moss Beach - Battery with serious injury - Deputies responded to report of physical altercation between adult male and his father, resulting in an injury to the eye on the father, who admitted to throwing the first punch. Both parties confirmed it was mutual combat and neither wished to seek prosecution. The case will be forwarded to the DA for review.

2:31 a.m. - N. Cabrillo Hwy at Kehoe, Half Moon Bay – DUI - Deputy on patrol observed vehicle drifting side to side and cross the fog line numerous times, while slowing down and speeding up several times. The Deputy performed a traffic stop and found the 24 year old driver from Half Moon Bay appeared to be intoxicated. He failed field sobriety tests and was arrested and transported to SM County Jail.

9:35 a.m. - 7500 block of Alpine Rd., La Honda – Vandalism - Deputy took report of vandalism when unknown suspect(s) pried open the locked door of a building and an adjacent building, leaving empty bottles and trash behind.

12:27 p.m. - 700 block of Kelly Ave., Half Moon Bay - Disobey court order - Deputy dispatched to report of restraining order violation, when the restrained party, a 62 year old transient, came within 100 yards of the protected party’s residence. He was arrested and transported to San Mateo County Jail.

4 p.m. - 400 block of Metzgar, Half Moon Bay - Petty theft/Tamper with vehicle - Deputy took report of the theft of parts from a motorcycle parked in the driveway of a residence.

8:34 p.m. – Poplar at Railroad, Half Moon Bay - Possession narcotic controlled substance/Public intoxication - Deputy on patrol of the beach parking lot, found a male and female, both 19 years old, in a vehicle and advised them the parking lot was closed. The female exited the vehicle and told the Deputy she had taken acid and was “freaking out.” The male then drove off without her. The female advised the male had taken the drug too and shouldn’t be driving, and that there was more of the substance in the vehicle. The Deputy followed the suspect vehicle, and the driver stopped in the middle of the street and exited the vehicle. Four LSD tablets were located in the vehicle. Both subjects were arrested and transported to San Mateo County Jail.

Monday, Aug. 5

5 p.m. - 700 block of Johnston, Half Moon Bay - Grand theft - Deputy responded to the report of theft, when unknown suspect(s) took a rented piece of equipment valued at $4,442 from a job site.

6 p.m. - 2900 block of N. Cabrillo, Half Moon Bay - Petty theft/Tamper with vehicle - Deputy took report of the theft of a license plate from a vehicle.

6:26 p.m. - Main St at Kelly Ave., Half Moon Bay - Public intoxication/Misdemeanor warrant - Deputy dispatched to report of an intoxicated subject on a bicycle, and made contact with the man, a 59 year old from Moss Beach. The subject was determined to be too intoxicated to care for himself. He was also found to be wanted on a misdemeanor warrant, and was arrested and transported to San Mateo County Jail.

9:46 p.m. - Cabrillo Hwy. at Tunitas Creek, Unincorporated - Taking Dungeness crab out of season - Deputy on patrol observed subjects with flashlights in the surf, a common practice of crab poachers. The Deputy made contact with the subjects and found a 47 year old man from Sunnyvale in possession of a bag of crabs. He was cited and released on his promise to appear in court.

10:02 p.m. - 200 block of Main St., Half Moon Bay - Under age 21; passenger possession alcohol - Deputy on patrol performed traffic stop for lighting violation and smelled the odor of alcohol emitting from the vehicle. A 1⁄2 full bottle of alcohol was found in the vehicle. A 14 year old passenger from Montara admitted that the bottle was hers. She was cited and released to the custody of a parent.

10:25 p.m. - Cabrillo Hwy at Tunitas Creek, Unincorporated, Half Moon Bay - Taking Dungeness crab out of season - Deputy on patrol observed numerous subjects climbing over a beach blufftop carrying flashlights and bags, wearing wet and sandy clothing. The Deputy made contact with the subjects, and one of the men, a 30 year old from Sunnyvale, admitted to having Dungeness crabs in the bag. He was cited and released on his promise to appear in court.
