Blotter: Drunk Driver Falls Asleep at the Tunnel, Police Nab Reckless Driver

Here's what went down in and around Half Moon Bay over the weekend.

Friday, June 28

12:31 a.m. - N. Cabrillo at Kehoe, Half Moon Bay -DUI- Deputy on patrol performed traffic stop on vehicle for lighting violation and found the 25 year old driver to be intoxicated. He failed field sobriety tests and was arrested and transported to San Mateo County Jail.

1:15 a.m. – Tom Lantos Tunnel, unincorporated – DUI - Deputy dispatched to report of possible drunk driver and located the vehicle stopped behind another vehicle. The driver appeared to be sleeping behind the wheel, with the vehicle in the “drive” position and his foot on the brake. CHP arrived on scene to complete the DUI investigation and subsequent arrest.

11:12 a.m. - 900 block of Palma, El Granada - Information report - Deputy took report regarding two dogs that had been involved in a fight. Both dogs sustained minor injuries and were released to their owners. Peninsula Humane Society was notified of the incident for their investigation.

9:18 p.m. - La Granada at Derrecho Moss Beach - Reckless driving - Deputy on patrol heard the sound of loud exhaust and screeching tires, and located a 30 year old man from Moss Beach in the suspect vehicle traveling at an unsafe speed without regard for the safety of nearby pedestrians. He was cited and released on his promise to appear in court.

Saturday, June 29

2:09 a.m.  - N. Cabrillo at Main St., Half Moon Bay – DUI/ Public intoxication - Deputy on patrol did welfare check on stranded motorist, and found the 27-year-old driver to be intoxicated. He failed field sobriety tests and was arrested on charges of driving under the influence, and transported to San Mateo County Jail. A 28-year-old passenger was determined to be too intoxicated to care for himself, and was also arrested and transported to San Mateo County Jail, to be released when sober.

5 p.m. - 0-100 block of Miramontes Pt Rd., Half Moon Bay - Appropriate lost property - Deputy took report of the theft of an ipad, when the victim reported leaving it unattended during a wedding. The theft was later determined to be unfounded, as a relative had taken the ipad for safekeeping when she saw it was unattended.

7:23 p.m. – 800 block of Francisco, El Granada - Information report - Domestic dispute.

8:13 p.m. – Third at Poplar, Half Moon Bay - False ID to peace officer/ Probation violation - Deputy on patrol observed suspicious subject run from area after seeing the Deputy’s patrol vehicle. The 17-year-old subject from Half Moon Bay was located, and gave a false name to the Deputy. His true identity was determined and the subject was found to be on juvenile probation with gang conditions. The juvenile was wearing gang related clothing in violation of his probation. He was arrested and transported to the Youth Services Center.

Sunday, June 30

12:15 a.m. - 500 block of 6th St. Montara – Domestic assault - Deputies responded to report of domestic violence and contacted the female victim, who had sustained a laceration to the forehead. The 53-year-old male was arrested on charges of domestic assault and transported to San Mateo County Jail.

8:45 a.m. - 500 block of Log Cabin Ranch Rd. La Honda – Battery - Deputy took report of a battery that occurred between two male juveniles at a boy’s camp.

11:20 p.m. - 300 block of Valdez, Half Moon Bay - Information report - Deputy took report of unwanted/harassing phone calls that did not meet the criteria of criminal threats. The RP was given advice on the restraining order process.

Monday, July 1 

1:12 a.m. - Poplar at Railroad, Half Moon Bay - Missing person returned  - Deputy dispatched to report of juveniles “partying” and made contact with the group. One seventeen year old female in the group had been reported missing out of East Palo Alto. The girl was returned to her guardian.

6:09 p.m. - 100 block of Los Banos Moss Beach - Misdemeanor warrant - Deputies responding to report of suspicious vehicle and made contact with the owner, and found the 47-year-old man was wanted on a misdemeanor warrant out of San Carlos. He was cited and released on his promise to appear.

9:30 p.m. - 1000 block of Miramontes Ave., Half Moon Bay - Appropriate lost property - Deputies took report of a lost cell phone. The victim suspected a female acquaintance took the phone. The victim and Deputies located his phone outside the friend’s residence, and the victim requested prosecution. The case will be forwarded to the DA for review.

10:06 p.m. - 1100 block of Le Conte, Montara - Minor possession alcohol - Eighteen year-old male from Half Moon Bay cited for possession of alcohol.
